What is Reiki? The Gift of Universal Life Force Energy!

What is Reiki? In its simplest form, reiki is universal life force energy that is given to a client through a reiki practitioner. But, other than that – what is reiki? From a healing point of view, it is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. If you have read anything about reiki, then you will have heard about the laying on of hands and have wondered what is reiki able to do for me?
The laying on of hands is done to channel the universal life force energy through the practitioner to the client. This isn’t so far fetched if you stop to think about it. This life force energy flows through all of us and is what causes us to be alive. Are you wondering what is reiki going to do about you feeling sick or stressed? Good question. The answer is if your life force energy is low, then you are more likely to get sick or feel stress. If on the other hand your life force energy is strong and high, you are much more capable of being happy and healthy.
What is reiki in Japanese mean? The word reiki is made up of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki with is the life force energy. So what that all means is that reiki is really spiritually guided life force energy.
What is reiki in terms of treatments? Reiki treats the whole person and that includes the body, emotions, mind and spirit. Imagine the well-being to be derived from this! Reiki can be done with a gentle laying on of hands and following all the hand positions of a traditional reiki treatment. Or, the practitioner can work in the energy field of your body, just a few inches above you. Either way, you will receive the benefits of reiki.
You may feel either heat or cold or tingling. No two people are the same in the way they receive energy from the practitioner. Reiki is simple, natural, holistic, safe and the ideal companion to conventional massage or any type of medical healing. It won’t hurt you and it may even make you feel better. Do your research on reiki before you decide if you want to try this marvelous healing experience. You will learn of its origins, what practitioners believe in, how they work, how they channel the life force energy to you and what the overall benefits to you can be.
If you like what you read and hear and experience, then you will delighted to know it is amazingly easy to learn as well. The ability to use reiki is not taught in the usual sense, through book learning (although you can learn about it this way). It is instead transferred to the student during a reiki class by the Reiki Master.
Reiki Training – What Does It Involve?

Reiki training is fairly straight forward, and is usually done in four steps – or depending on the Master teaching it, perhaps three steps. Level One Reiki training is focused on self-healing and helping others. This reiki training usually takes anywhere from one to four days before students are able to practice reiki and do self-healing.
At level one of reiki training, students learn the history of Reiki, the energy system, the nature of the reiki energy, ethics, the five principles of reiki, the three pillars of reiki, the hand positions, how to do a self-healing session and how to do a session for others. As you can see, this is fairly comprehensive Level One Reiki training.
If you will to take your reiki training to the next level, then you will be working at Level Two. The focus of this level is to learn the Japanese healing symbols and on sending Reiki from a distance. By the way, you do NOT under any circumstances do a distance healing without permission first. The ONLY time there may be an exception to this stricture is if the person is unconscious or has dementia.
In that instance, you seek permission of their higher self/spirit, and you ask three times. If you can’t get a clear answer, then try sending distance treatment. If it flows, then you have been given permission. If it does not, and you will know that because the energy won’t “go” anywhere, then you cease sending.
For Level Two reiki training, it’s a good idea to wait for at least three weeks to make sure level one is properly ingrained into the student. Of course this depends on the student and their abilities. Along with the above teachings, there will, or should be, a good in-depth discussion on getting rid of unwanted habits, empowering your own personal goals and making permanent changes in your life. The Japanese healing symbols and techniques are then introduced into your reiki training and you practice sending distance treatments (usually to other students who have given permission for a distance treatment).
Your Level Three A training is usually the Master Practitioner or advanced practitioner. The master symbol is given at this level of reiki training, but you are not taught how to attune others or teach reiki.
The next level if your course is taught in four steps is the Level Three Master/Teacher. The focus here would be on attuning others to reiki energy and on teaching reiki to others. In some cases an essay is requested of the student outlining why they wish to become a reiki master/teacher. The essay is discussed in great detail, as this is a solemn undertaking and one of much responsibility. The benefits of living a spirit-based life are talked about as well. The master symbol is introduced and practiced.
Reiki Massage – The Hands On Relaxation Mode

The term reiki massage is a bit of an oxymoron when it comes right down to it simply because in reality reiki is NOT massage. However, some regard it as “massaging” the energy field. But to mention reiki massage is confusing, as this is nothing like a conventional remedial massage therapy from a licensed massage therapist.
In most instances reiki healing (not reiki massage) is the use of spiritual energy to heal a person’s aura or situation. Massage on the other hand is the process of rubbing or kneading different parts of the body for therapeutic reasons or purposes. Now having said this, there are indeed many massage therapists who are trained in reiki and who combine the two disciplines to get an even better result for the client. In instances like that, then you could aptly describe what you are receiving as reiki massage.
Licensed massage therapists who take reiki are learning how to better use their already existing healing energies to promote the spiritual well-being of their clients, as well as their physical well-being. Their treatments then become a blend of reiki massage – but this is really the only instance where those two things go together in the same sentence. So keeping this in mind, when we refer to reiki massage in this article, we are referring to a massage therapist giving reiki using the usual hand positions.
The usual treatment of reiki massage starts at the head and then works down the front of the body and down the back of the body through the seven different chakras. Where the hands are placed coincide with your seven major chakras or in other words, the energy centers of your physical body. Reiki massage helps you manage pain, deal with stress and relaxes you on a very deep level. The hands of the reiki practitioner will either be laying on you gently or working just a few inches above your body. The healing energy is sent through/channeled by the practitioner into you.
There is no need to be nervous about a massage treatment combined with reiki at the same time. The reiki will not hurt you in any way. It is actually used to help treat conditions such as lockjaw, muscle pain, tension, stress, injury healing and well over 60 other types of ailments. In the Western world you will discover there are four areas/chakras used for treatment – the head, body, legs/feet and back.
It is safe to say that reiki treatments are one hundred percent safe and do not have any side effects, nor do they incur injuries. Some will experience sensations like warmth, tingling or cold during their session, but these sensations will not hurt you. Depending on the patient, Reiki treatments have been known to show results immediately or at a later time.
Frases de Reiki – The Term Means?

It’s certainly an adventure to try and learn all the frases de reiki when you are just starting out. The terms at first mean nothing but a jumble of words. However there are many places on the Internet you can find frases de reiki to help you understand what they mean.
The first frases de reiki you will likely run across is the term attunement. This simply put are the adjustments made by the reiki master to the students energy body to allow reiki energy to flow through them. The energy of course is coming from a higher power and will assist them in healing themselves and others using reiki energy. Attunements provide an instant and direct connection to the Universe.
You might also hear the frases de reiki that involves mention of the word aura. This refers to the bio-magnetic energy field around your body and the bodies of every living thing on this earth. During the course of your studies you will also come across the frases de reiki beaming. This is used when you heal someone that you can see, but are unable to do hands on reiki for. It is also used to clear a room of any negative energy prior to a treatment.
Since reiki is about healing, you will run across the frases de reiki that mentions byosen and byosen reikan ho scanning. Byosen is the energy or feeling from the source of an illness or injury. Call it a hotspot or a dip in the energy field of the client if you will. Byosen reikan ho scanning is using your hands to scan a person’s physical body and aura. This will tell you where you need to work, where healing is needed.
At the master practitioner level you will hear the frases de reiki that makes mention of a crystal grid. This basically is a method of creating a sacred space or healing using a specific formation of charged quartz crystals.
Most definitely when you get further along in your studies, the frases de reiki dealing with distant attunements will pop up. This is when a Reiki Master carries out the attunement process on a Reiki student across space and time. This is different than a distance healing which is used to give Reiki healing across time and space, and this can be used in the past, present or future.
If you run across the term empowerment, this is what it means. Empowerments are different from attunements because they raise the frequency of the student a little at a time, where as attunements offer a direct connection to the energy source. For example, Usui-Sensai used empowerments for those students he saw frequently. For those he didn’t see very often, he would use attunements.
Reiki Usui – The Original Reiki

Reiki Usui is credited to its founder, Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. The driving force behind reiki usui was Mikao Usui’s wish to help others heal more intensely. To do this he became familiar with oriental and western methods of healing, and then synthesized these into what is known as reiki usui.
Although Usui was born into the spiritual traditions of his family, which were Tendai, he was certain there was a better way to heal. Interestingly Usui found the path he needed to follow to create reiki usui with the understanding and mentoring of a Shingon Priest. This path was not without problems as to pursue it meant a rift was created with his family. To change sects was to go against family tradition. So intent on the dream of something better to heal – the dream of reiki usui – he continued in his journey and did become a disciple and follower of Shingon.
Utterly convinced he would find parallel teachings in other traditions, Usui studied Tibetan Vajrayana and Tibetan Medicine. What he found was not reiki usui (at least not yet), but he did find similar teachings to those of Japanese esoteric Buddhism. By now he had a great deal on his plate and attempted to condense it into a more formal structure for himself. To do that, he started to codify the teaching and methods into a system that included the use of symbols. This also included esoteric dharani and methods to tapping in to bestow (channel) power. A dharani is a type of ritual speech similar to a mantra. Although they are similar, they are used in different situations.
Usui got to a point and then got stuck. In the traditions he was drawing upon, the conferring of power could only be done by a living teacher called an Acarya. Since he was not a Master Teacher he decided there must be a way to do direct power transfers. At a momentary loss, he decided to meditate, fast and pray for a line of direct empowerment – for reiki usui if you will.
The story goes that Usui went to the scared mountain of Kurama just outside Kyoto. Kurama had been a Tendai temple for years, but was frequented by monks from other sects. During his meditation‘s he realized a complete understanding of how to do direct power transfer and began to develop what we know as reiki usui. Usui is said to have taught many the ability to lay on hands and heal, but didn’t teach many the deeper, more committed path that can be taken to understanding reiki.
Usui reiki is considered to be the original reiki and the foundation of most of the reiki systems in use in the world today. Stop and think about the enormous contribution Mikao Usui made to this world with his gift to us of the universal life force energy.
Reiki Healing – for A Better Vibration

If you don’t know anything about Reiki, but are interested in reducing stress in your life and experiencing deep relaxation, then try Reiki. It won’t hurt you. One of the most often talked about benefits of Reiki healing is stress reduction and relaxation. Does Reiki healing help the body? Yes, it triggers your natural healing abilities, improves and maintains your health. And Reiki healing is a natural therapy. In this day and age of pills for this and that, hormones for other things and concoctions and doctors writing too many prescriptions, Reiki healing is gaining popularity. People want to get back to something natural, and what could be more natural than the energy of Reiki healing?
Reiki healing is non-invasive and can be done either hands on the client’s body, or by just working in the client’s “aura” or “energy” field just a few inches out from their body. What is happening is the energy being channeled through the Reiki practitioner is working with the Higher Self of the Receiver (Client) to enhance their health and well-being. That would be the WHOLE being, including the physical, emotional and psychic body. Reiki healing knows where to go and what to do. It has an intelligence of it own.
The only thing required by the practitioner is the intention to heal/help with Reiki. The only thing required by the client is to give permission to the practitioner to use the intention to heal/help them. Interesting note: Reiki healing can be channeled to yourself as well as to others. Reiki energy is total and pure energy. When it is partnered with the sincere desire to heal or be healed the results are often quite amazing.
Are there any other benefits of reiki? Yes, it can clear energy blockages in your body. When your life force energy is disrupted, weakened or blocked what tends to happen is emotional or health problems crop up. An imbalance in our energy can stem from many things – injury, negative thoughts/feelings, worry, fear, anger, negative self-talk etc. Reiki can help with any and all energy interruptions in your body by the universal life force energy channeled through the practitioner. You won’t ever deplete the energy level of the practitioner, for they have access to a limitless supply.
What other benefits can I derive from Reiki besides deep relaxation? Reiki helps accelerate your self-healing abilities, helps you sleep better, can reduce blood pressure, helps relieve pain, supports your immune system and raises the vibrational frequency of the body among other things.
Reiki complements Eastern and Western medicine and everyone can benefit from it, even animals, plants, water etc. Everything in our environment has a life force energy and it is often over looked in our hectic lifestyles.
Reiki Music – The Music of the Spheres!

Reiki music is a personal experience for the practitioner and for the client. A world where you and the client can just relax and “be”! Mind you, reiki music is an individual taste as well, but in general you’d want something soothing and melodic for clients while in session with you.
Reiki music has actually been around for centuries, it was just not really recognized as reiki music. In fact, it was considered to be background music of a relaxing nature. And speaking of nature, many of the CD’s you can get these days of reiki music are intrinsically tied to nature. Makes sense though doesn’t it? Reiki is a gift from nature, or rather the Spirit of Universal Life, that is dynamically a facet of all out lives on earth. Reiki and reiki music when teamed together can make a pleasant experience one of pure serenity.
Reiki music is the ideal accompaniment to a reiki session which can range from 30 minutes to 45 minutes, depending on how long a session your client requested. Clients can come to you with specific requests or body areas to be worked on or they can simply request a full body reiki treatment. When they are asking for a full body treatment, this is the best time to select some reiki music that suits the mood you want to strike for your session.
If you happen to search the Internet for music, one of the first things you will notice is that there is LOTS of it. However, quite a bit of it is relaxation music only. There is nothing wrong with that, but you may wish to search a bit further and find music specifically recorded for the reiki practitioner. Most of the ones designed for the practitioner have strong links to Mother Nature and, some even have a gentle chime included at certain time intervals so you know when to change your hand positions.
If you prefer music, you can also find many CD’s on the Internet that are specifically made for reiki practitioners. It’s really a matter of personal choice, but may also be what your client’s seem to prefer when they have a session with you. Since some of them can definitely fall asleep, you may want to choose the most soothing tracks you can find. And you will be able to select what you like from most sites on the Internet by the way, since they provide sample audio clips for you to choose from.
The one thing to remember the most about reiki is that you are striving for healing, serenity and calm. To do that, you need the ideal ambience in your therapy room. You will know the right music when you hear it. It will speak to your heart.
Kundalini Reiki – the Basic Fundamental Chakra

Kundalini reiki is often referred to as meaning certain healing channels and chakras have been opened, and you have gained access to the Earth’s energy. Kundalini reiki energy is regarded as coming into the root chakra, the energy center located near the coccyx. Kundalini reiki energy is also referred to as the Kundalini Fire. What happens once you have attained Kundalini reiki energy is it runs all the way up through the body, the main energy channel, and out your Crown chakra.
The energy channel we are talking about stretches from the root chakra to the crown chakra at the top of your head. An open Kundalini simply means that over a period of time, a complete cleansing of the chakras, your body parts and your energy channels is achieved.
It is said that Kundalini reiki is a powerful tool for energetic healing. That the combination of Kundalini/reiki energy also works together to promote spiritual healing and the evolution towards enlightenment. In other words this system of reiki is extremely powerful. Evidently Kundalini reiki can teach healing karmic bonds, situations, personal qualities and character traits in addition to hands-on treatments, long-distance healing and several methods of self-healing.
The origin of Kundalini reiki is Ole Gabrielsen. Thanks to his hundreds of hours of communion with Master Kuthumi, this system of reiki is available to many others interested enough to pursue it. Gabrielson is a Master of Meditation. If you are interested in learning Kundalini reiki you must be a Usui reiki or Seichim master. Kundalini Reiki 1-2-3 courses are taken as remote, long-distance courses. There is no difference in the quality of attunements whether done hands-on or as a remote attunement.
Kundalini is a dormant energy within most people, but they don’t realize it. There is a delightful story in Hindu mythology that Kundalini is really a serpent Goddess. This Goddess lies asleep at the base of your spine, coiled three and a half times around the first chakra. The full name for this Goddess is Kundalini Shakti who represents the flowering of the divine Shakti energy.
It is further said that under certain circumstances, when the Kundalini energy (a condensed and primal force) wakes up and rises through the body, it can be an uncomfortable experience. What awakes the sleeping kundalini? Extended periods of meditation, yoga, fasting, stress, trauma, psychedelic drugs or near death experiences. This energy when released creates a vertical connection between all the chakras.
Is this worth trying? Indeed it is, but first of all remember that you need to already be a Master to handle it. That makes sense, because if you are a Master, then you have come to understand your own power and skills, and know how to handle changes in your energy. You will know what to do if you experience any unpleasant feelings as a result of having your kundalini energy released.
Criticizing Reiki

As with almost all other forms of alternative medicine and natural healing therapies, reiki is subject to come criticism. While there are no known direct negative effects of receiving reiki treatment, some members of the professional medical community fear that recipients of reiki (and other alternative medicine therapies) might forgo conventional methods of treatment in favor of the reiki treatment. While this is certainly a legitimate concern, many reiki practitioners have begun to advise their patients to seek conventional medical help in addition to receiving reiki.
Of course, there is no complete, definitive evidence proving the validity or efficacy of reiki. Most of the benefits reaped from reiki are attributed to mindset and the placebo effect. While this may be true, it is definitely not harmful to the patient. Some of the most disturbing criticism comes from religious circles that deplore reiki as a method of communicating with “Satan” or other occult practices. This should be viewed as subjective as reiki is not directly linked with established religion in any way.
Different Types of Reiki Treatments

Reiki is a holistic treatment. This means that it can be used to treat ailments in the entire body as well as in the mind and in the spirit. While all of these things are possible with reiki, the most common use of the treatment is as a way of healing the body.
Whole body treatment with reiki basically involves the patient lying down and the practitioner laying his or her hands on or over the patient’s body. Some reiki practitioners can feel where the energy is needed more than others. In localized reiki treatment, one specific part of the body is treated; this is often used on those who have been in accidents or who have one specific complaint. A patient can also receive group treatment, which involves two reiki practitioners performing reiki on one patient. It is thought that this can bring about a better effect.
