Meditation Music to Relax and Take the Stress Out

Meditation is a form of relaxation where one sits (or stands and sits) quietly with their thoughts focused on one object or thought. It has been used for thousands of years as a means of relaxation and gaining inner peace and tranquility. What started as a religious ritual for Buddhist and other religions has turned into an everyday part of many people’s lives. Meditation has been used and recommended for many physical ailments that are stress-related. Many meditation techniques are used today and each individual usually chooses the one that is most effective for them. Meditation music is used a lot with meditation. Meditation music listened to during meditation or played with meditation.
Many people enjoy different type of music, some being classical, jazz or rock, while others may enjoy country or pop. While any type of music will work if you’re just in the mood for music, but for meditation music should be soothing and simple. You do not want loud upbeat music as something to use for meditation. The main purpose or goal of meditation is to completely relax by finding some thing to focus on for the entire meditation period, whether it’s twenty minutes or two hours. It is not possible to totally focus on one thing with loud and distracting music playing in the background. Meditation music is supposed to enhance meditation, not distract you from it.
Different musical instruments have been played with meditation by more advanced meditations. Some of these instruments like the flute, Tibetan singing bow, tambour and the sitar are said to be very inductive to meditation. Some musicians can play different scores of music while they meditate. Sounds True, Sanata Society and Inner Splendor Media are just a few organizations that have produced meditation music. Some artists such as Oliver Messiaen (Quartet for the end of time), Ben Johnston (Visions and Spells) and Karlheinz Stockhausen (Mantra) are all musicians and artists that have combined music and meditation by writing meditation music. Some is designed to be played during meditation while others should be performed after the meditation period.
One important factor to meditation is to pick a technique of meditation that works well for you and make time for it in your life. It works most successfully when it is used on a regular basis. The same is true for your meditation music. Choose one piece that you feel may work with your meditation. If it doesn’t work, try another. Meditation may not work as you hope after just one session. It may take a few sessions for you to learn to correctly focus on meditation, specifically if you try this on your own.
Obtaining an Online Christian Music Therapy Degree

In today’s fast-track world, there are many people who wish to change careers but find they do not have time to get the education they need to make that career change. Of course, most of these people choose online degree programs from accredited universities. Because of the popularity of online degree programs, an interested person can obtain almost any degree online. One of the degree programs with burgeoning popularity is the online Christian music therapy degree.
While finding a degree program that is specifically an online Christian music therapy degree program, potential students who are interested in this type of degree can get a general music therapy degree and then apply the techniques of Christian music to their personal music therapy practices.
If this is the type of degree you want to pursue, do not search for such a specific topic such as an online Christian music therapy degree. Instead, look at online universities that offer a music therapy program. Most universities have online undergraduate and master’s programs available for students interested in any type of music therapy degree, including an online Christian music therapy degree.
An online Christian music therapy degree – or any music therapy degree – starts with an undergraduate degree in music or in music therapy. If an interested student has not achieved a degree from an accredited university, or if the student does not have music therapy background, he or she will want to start with an undergraduate music therapy degree. This degree will include education in major subjects like health, music, and behavioral studies as well as several degree-specific music therapy classes. When searching for a degree program, prospective students will want to be sure that the programs they are looking into have been approved by the National Association of Schools of Music, and also by the American Music Therapy Association. This will ensure that graduates of that university’s music therapy program will be eligible to take the certification exam given by the Certification Board for Music Therapists.
For students who are continuing their music therapy education, some schools offer a master’s degree online. This is very beneficial for those who want to further their current online Christian music therapy degree or general music therapy degree. As with most master’s programs in other educational departments, a master’s in music therapy focuses on theory, research, and practice. The master’s courses expand on the knowledge obtained in the music therapy undergrad program, so it is essential for an incoming student to have general formal knowledge of music therapy, which is often limited to a bachelor’s online Christian music therapy degree or other bachelor’s in music therapy.

Choosing the Best Music Therapy Schools

Choosing a school is never a simple task. When you are trying to find a place that will guide you toward your academic and personal goals, not all music therapy schools are made alike. You need to weigh several factors in choosing the program that’s right for you. While this process is time consuming, the best music therapy schools are out there – if only you a few hours of your time to carefully consider your options.
The first thing that most people look for in music therapy schools is their accreditation status. You generally want to apply to programs where the curriculum has been verified by the national accreditation board so that you can potentially teach at higher education systems or transfer your credits to another program later in your learning. It is simple enough to find the answer to this question – ask the school enrollment office when you sign up for more information. They will let you know if you are looking at an accredited school or not. While there’s nothing necessary wrong with a non-accredited school, it can limit your career options down the road.
The next thing to look for in music therapy schools is the price. Though student loans and grants are often used to help pay for education these days, that doesn’t mean that you need to borrow a bunch of money to get your degree. Find programs that are reasonable in cost so that you can focus on what you are learning, rather than what you are paying for the education you are receiving. It will help to determine a range of prices for your schooling as well as to figure out what you can afford to pay each month, if they offer a monthly installment plan. Limiting the amount of money you need to borrow is always good advice.
But it’s the programs at music therapy schools that you should really focus on. Look at the classes they offer, when they are offered, and who the teachers are. You want to sign up at a school where the teachers are already professional music therapists as they can give you a better idea of what to expect in your career and what you need to learn before you will be ready. Though the reputation of a school might be something that’s appealing to you, another factor to consider is class size. You don’t want to be lost in the masses of a larger school when you could be going to a lesser know, but still solid school, getting the attention you need.
Definition of Alternative Medicine – All The Facts

Have you noticed that alternative medicine has begun to appeal to a wider audience than ever before? This is based in part because of the positive information regarding the definition of alternative medicine that has been released to mainstream magazines and newspapers around the world. People have begun to embrace the idea of getting away from conventional medicine and the many harmful side effects of prescription drugs, and are eager to learn all they can so they can be sure of the exact definition of alternative medicine. They want clear facts so they can determine if this choice is right for them.
Just what is the definition of alternative medicine, anyway? An exact definition depends entirely on who you ask, as this type of health benefit can be something different for everyone. There are many different variables when it comes to alternative medicine. So many treatments and techniques are available that it is hard to come up with a definition that fits them all.
As it stands, most people really don’t know what the true definition of alternative medicine is. They only know that it helps them, and that is what they think really matters. But there are those who like to understand hows everything when it comes to their health care, and a definition of alternative medicine is something that they strive to decipher for themselves.
A simple definition of alternative medicine is to describe what it is not. It is safe to say that anything that is not used at a doctor’s office, or taught to aspiring physicians in medical school is not alternative, but conventional medicine.
Interestingly enough, alternative medicine has become so widely accepted that many medical schools have began to teach classes in alternative medicine to bring up and coming doctors up to speed so they are able to give their patients what they are asking for. Some hospitals are even adding Alternative Medicine departments, which is proof that this type of medicine is becoming more popular than ever.
It is surprising how many doctors, both young and old, are coming to accept alternative medicine as a viable option to the type of medicine that they have practiced for years. Apparently, they have realized that alternative medicine has been practiced in one form or another since time began. It is food for thought when you realize that even people who are not in the medical profession, whether they realize it or not, use alternative medicine nearly every day. So many of the simple things that we do for ourselves, like listen to music to relieve stress or use an ice bag on our tennis elbow, are most definitely alternative medicine.
Perhaps the best definition for alternative medicine is health and medical care that is as close to nature as possible. Remember, our ancestors didn’t have huge hospitals and a team of doctors to cater to each little symptom they had, and they made through life just fine.
Do You Know the History of Music Therapy?

For most people, the history of music therapy is not nearly as important as its ability to help them with their problems. But knowing where this particular therapy came from will help you understand why it does work and how it might work for you. The history of music therapy goes further back than you think – even though it seems like a newer innovation in the therapy business.
A case could be made for the history of music therapy going as far back as biblical times. By using music as a part of religious rituals, it seems that positive things happened or that people were reinforced in their specific belief structures. Because music was a part of this process, it seems that music therapy was having an effect already – even if it was unintentional. Many tribal cultures have also used music as a part of their fertility ceremonies, to worship their gods, and to help with illnesses. In each of these cases, it may be said that the music itself was the motivating factor in helping the patient achieve positive results.
Others believe the history of music therapy began in the late 1800s. There is also evidence the music therapy was used in the post World War I treatment of traumatic injuries. By playing music, patients seemed to heal faster – both emotionally and physically. In listening to the music in the background, patients reports less pain than they had had before the music was turned on. With these positive results, it became clear to doctors and nurses that music really could be therapeutic for a number of patients.
With these positive results, the history of music therapy began to turn to training people to become music therapists. By creating college and university programs which taught music therapy, more psychologists and therapists were able to share this simple and effective technique with their patients. The American Music Therapy Association was developed and multiple academic publications are now available for professionals in the field.
Music therapy today focuses on helping address a variety of concerns in a number of settings. Not only is music therapy used in conjunction with physical therapy, but mental health professionals are finding that music helps relax their clients as well as stimulate conversation. In addition, nursing homes, hospice centers, and rehabilitation facilities are all finding that music therapy can work in conjunction with other activities they have planned.
The history of music therapy may stretch back to times long before our parents and grandparents, but that must mean that it’s doing something right – and that you might want to look into it yourself.
A Researcher’s Assistant: Articles on Music Therapy

Today’s society is filled with people trying to find alternative remedies to illnesses. There are many reasons for this, from lack of health insurance to the desire to avoid medication. But whatever the reason, many alternative therapies, like music therapy, have grown in popularity. In fact, music therapy has not only gained popularity, it has also gained recognition as a medical profession. This has led many students interested in careers helping others to seek degrees in music therapy.
Of course, both students and people who are seeking relief from ailments are searching for information about music therapy. This is where articles on music therapy become important. Articles on music therapy can help educate non-professionals about this professional field. Professionally written articles, such as research articles, are the best way to go for those who are looking for information regarding the proven benefits of music therapy. These articles will give the reader an idea of what types of music therapy techniques have been used in which situations, and how those techniques have fared when compared to traditional therapy methods.
For example, a person interested in using music therapy to treat chronic pain would want to search for articles on music therapy that dealt with the results of research performed on chronic pain patients. These articles will give the person an idea of the music therapy techniques that seem to work the best on chronic pain patients – such as utilizing music as a distraction from pain, or as a relaxation method to reduce physical stress that can enhance the brain’s perception of pain. Articles on music therapy allow the reader to see how music therapy is used in chronic pain patients and what he or she can expect from music therapists for his or her particular condition. The reader can also choose the technique that seems best to him or her and suggest that to his or her music therapist.
Whether the reader is a student or a potential music therapy patient, it is extremely important for him or her to know how to determine the validity of the articles on music therapy he or she is reading. The best resources are available at the library; published articles are written by scholarly authors with formal background in the subject. If the library is not an option, the interested person can look for legitimate articles on music therapy on the internet. A good tip for this person is to look for articles published on websites hosted by professional music therapy organizations like the American Music Therapy Association. Articles on music therapy from these organizations will be accurate and up-to-date.
50. Yoga For Children – It’s Not Just For Adults

Why would someone consider paying someone to help their child get exercise? Once upon a time, exercise was the same word used for playing. Children would open their door, head outside and would not show up until dinner time. Games would be played with other children that would involve running, jumping, laughing, and even positive conflict.
However, the world is a different place. It is now filled with fear, anxieties, and other forms of stress. Terms like ADD and ADHD have become standard when describing children. Obesity has risen in children causing an onslaught of childhood disease and general unhealthiness. What is the answer to it all? Perhaps yoga could be the right path for your child.
What Is Yoga?
Many people have their own ideas of what yoga is and all that it involves.
Yoga is a group of Indian spiritual practices that aims at achieving the union with the Supreme Consciousness. There are some yogas that go beyond that and aim at the spiritual transformation of the human nature and obtaining immortality. The Western Hemisphere embraces the physical aspects together with the practice of asanas more than anything (asanas are postures of Hatha Yoga). This is often used as a form of exercise that is good for the body but easy on its joints.
Why Choose Yoga?
What could yoga do for a person? How could they benefit? Well, at its physical level, yoga has been proven extremely beneficial for certain disorders. Further reasons to try this form of alternative health therapy would be:
• Increasing Flexibility – yoga acts on many of the joints of the body. It goes beyond the norm to include those that are not commonly exercised but need to be for achieve full mobility
• Increasing lubrication of the joints, ligaments, and tendons – The positions practiced also work the ligaments and tendons that help release the necessary lubrication to prevent injury. Natural lubrication is essential to joint and body health and an increase in it is even more beneficial, particularly for a sedentary society of children.
• Organ health – Yoga massages all the organs and stimulates a strong circulatory systems and ample blood supply. These help fight against disease.
• Awareness – Yoga gives children of all ages an introduction to self-awareness and awareness of the self in relation to the earth and to others.
• Complete Detoxification – Multitudinous toxins can accumulate in even the very young. These come from all manner of dietary, medicinal, and environmental pollutants and substances. The increase in circulation and ample blood supplied by yoga practice enhances the detoxification and excretion process, making for healthier, toxin-free children who have more energy and feel better.
• Toning – Yoga is an excellent source of toning for young muscle groups. It works to build muscles, strengthen, and enhance flexibility as it works to correct the problems of inactivity
Is Yoga Really For Children?
The benefits mentioned are for everyone who incorporates yoga into their lives. There are benefits that are specifically designed for children. Some of these benefits include:
• Self-control – The simple breathing and biofeedback techniques that are used slow the nervous system allowing children to develop a sense of self-control and allowing them to connect with their feelings.
• Concentration – The poses and sequences used help release physical and emotional energy that help children concentrate and helps them test better in the learning atmosphere
• Skills – The games and tools used help develop trust, compassion, communication, and teamwork skills
• Relaxation – Storytelling, mental imagery, and music help promote a sense of calmness that allows the imagination to flow
• Wellness – Lessons learned help develop healthy habits around food, exercise, electronic media, and other choices that can affect decisions
When it comes to the children, one should take all aspects into consideration. The children are truly our future and their overall happiness matters for the proper balance of health. When a child is sick then the parent will take them to the doctor, have the necessary prescriptions filled, and follow the doctor’s orders. However, overall health is not just about avoiding illness but the fine balance of physical, mental, social, and emotional wellness, such that yoga can provide.
A Brief Overview of Music Therapy Research
February 19, 2011 by AndrewTraub
Music therapy can be used for a wide range of illnesses, cognitive problems, and emotional issues. Because of the positive reactions of music therapy patients, a large amount of music therapy research has been done to test the theories behind why, how and if music therapy actually works. While the results differ with the various applications and techniques, in general music therapy research has established that music therapy is an acceptable and legitimate health care profession.
There has been extensive music therapy research done on various areas of the health care field, and some of the most difficult patients with the most difficult to treat problems have shown improvement, if sometimes temporary, when they have been exposed to music therapy. For example, Alzheimer’s patients suffer from numerous problems such as cognitive dysfunctions, social behavior issues, and motor skill problems. In music therapy research, cognitive dysfunction in Alzheimer’s patients is treated by subjecting the patient to three different types of music therapy treatments: musically cued reminiscence, verbally cued reminiscence, and musical activity. While musically and verbally cued reminiscence did improve certain brain functions and even could increase language abilities in some patients, the most significant difference was found in patients who were exposed to musical activities. In fact, music therapy research showed that these musical activities – like using songs to promote reminiscence and discussion – actually raised patients’ cognitive testing scores.
But cognitive disabilities and illnesses are not the only health problems that can be treated successfully with music therapy. Music therapy is often used for patients who suffer from chronic pain. In the chronic pain studies, different types of pain patients were studied to see how music therapy would improve pain problems caused by various medical problems. Chronic pain patients in general are helped by music therapy because the perception of pain and the perception of music are essentially the same in terms of the way the brain perceives each sensation. Music is used to cancel out the vibrations of pain, often eliminating – or at least decreasing – the brain’s perception of the pain.
Music therapy has a very high success rate in pain patients who suffer from Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and other ongoing illnesses. But there is also a high rate of success when music is used to treat the pain of temporary pain, like the pain of labor and childbirth. In fact, music therapy research shows that when used in the labor and delivery room, music can help a laboring mother to lower her amount of pain. Cancer patients, especially children, are often exposed to music therapy treatments that involve singing; this treatment has been shown to boost the child’s immune system.
The Benefits of Daily Meditation

When it comes to people meditating, some people do not have a schedule that they follow. However, if you are meditating, it is very wise to meditate on a daily basic or that you follow a specific schedule.
Even though many people do not understand meditation or the use of it, does not mean that meditation is not worth doing. In fact, many people have found that if they are on a daily meditation schedule they feel much better (mentally as well as physically). In fact, there have been many studies and tests done to prove that those that are on a daily meditation schedule have healthier and longer lives than those that do not meditate. Many people have even said that daily meditation even helps them feel much younger!
If you are a person that is trying to get on a daily meditation schedule, then you are in luck!! By that, there are many places that you can go to for help; with a daily schedule. In fact, one of the best places that you can go for daily meditation is to an actual meditation class/seminar; as there are many around. If you are self conscious, then another place where you can go for help on your daily meditation schedule and movements is on the internet. Not only can you find meditation equipment (such as cushions, benches, mats and music) but you can also get meditation instructions; for the beginners. After a little while of doing meditation on your own, you should b able to do it greatly; just like a pro!
Even as there are many people that practice meditation on a daily basis, there are still many more that do not see the purpose of daily meditation. When it comes to daily meditation on its benefits, there are many that most people are unaware of! In fact, one of the best benefits to daily meditation is getting the satisfaction of freeing your mind; on a daily basis. For most people, that alone, is the best thing that can happen for them! Another very great benefit of daily meditation is getting the physical exercise for your body (as there is stretching of the legs and muscles); which every body needs. Another benefit of meditating on a daily basis is feeling much younger and healthier; as in today’s society it is very important to feel and be younger than what you actually are!
Even though you can’t see the immediate benefits/results of meditation that does not mean that there aren’t any! In fact, the best way to see the benefits is to actually try meditating for yourself!
