Your Questions About 102.7

Steven asks…

How can I help my toddlers fever break?

my 14 month old has had a fever since last night it’s highest point being 102.7, since then I have been giving him motrin and the lowest I can get it is 99.9, he’s playing like his normal self just acting a tad grumpy. And he’s drinking fine the only other symptom is a slight runny nose and a very very slight cough. Any tips?

AndrewTraub answers:

Fevers are scary. Always give tylenol. The others can have side effects. Luke warm water baths, no clothing and fans always can help. 99.9 isn’t too bad especially if he’s playing etc. Make sure that you keep the tylenol in him every 4 hours. Don’t wait for it to spike. Load him up on schedule. You don’t need to go to the ER until it hits 104 and won’t break. Even then there’s not much they can do. Make sure you push fluids. Sounds like a cold and this too shall pass.

Helen asks…

What is the most popular radio in Los Angeles, CA ?

For normal people (15 to 25 years) ? Is KIIS FM (102.7 FM) popular?
It’s a serious question :)
@Obviousman with ‘normal’ i wanted to say people that would listen to usual contemporary hits, pop music, commercial music, not underground and rare types of music

AndrewTraub answers:

KIIS FM 102.7 is LA’s number 1 hit music radio station. Almost everyone in Southern California listens to it.

Robert asks…

How could a spiritual piriah, a lonely sparrow upon the house top, be instrumental in spreading good news?

Psalm 102

7 I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.

8 Mine enemies reproach me all the day; [and] they that are mad against me are sworn against me.

9 For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping.

AndrewTraub answers:

The sparrow is a metaphor for God, He has suffered as Jesus, he is above all of His enemies, he was forced to eat the wages of sin, that left of taste of ashes in His mouth, he weeps for a world dieing without Him, He who loved them so much, as to allow His Son to die for their sin. God Bless.

Betty asks…

My husband has been sick for a couple days and im really concerned?

Right now his fever is 102.7, and we just noticed that he has a bubble (swollen spot) forming underneath his eye. Both of his eyes are completely bloodshot too. He has a fever, body aches, sore throat, etc. Does this sound normal? Should I take him to the ER?

AndrewTraub answers:

I would take him to the doctor

Linda asks…

Your Questions About Alternative Medical Treatments

November 29, 2011 by AndrewTraub

Sharon asks…

Why do mainstream medical personal in this section always ask for proof !..?

About alternative treatments, when the proof is there for the asking. But the only proof they concern themselves with is the proof of the Pharmaceutical industries testing procedure. and the 4 journals of medicine. and all else is out the window! No questions asked! Why are their minds so closed about this. Could it be that there’s no money in pushing something that can’t be patented.
I was fixing to go off here on my edit at the naysaying doctors and probably would have gotten reported and suspended. But I was so satisfied with the answers that the poor people on here gave that my anger has seased. These same people that are tired of your killer meds as I am. Better watch it! You medical wizards here snooping in this section trying to persuade people into your poisoness web. They are getting tired of you real fast. and you guys are only making it worst by showing your true colors here. That is a fact. People are waking up and it’s time to pay the piper.
Nature is as nature does! Bring your bodies back in line with nature! And wellbeing will follow. Thats the way God would want it. Doctors! Please quit hanging out where you’re not wanted!
I thank all of the NICE people on here that answered my question and opened more eyes to this mess that they are creating!
“Tony I” Don’t these medical personal look like a bunch of Hyenas eating away at the good people on here. Pretty sad huh! Well I’m glad that people on here can see what they are really like behind closed doors.
Rhianna, the real Conspiracy is real easy for most people to see. But your brainwashing prevents you from acknowleging it. Wake up babe!

AndrewTraub answers:

Good question, since whenever proof is offered they reject or ignore it.

By and large, most studies are conducted on patentable items that can controlled and profitted from. The only FDA approved medications are those owned and controlled by the pharmaceutical companies because no one can afford to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on something they can not uniquely control. It has been shown that studies tend to return positive results for the funders up to eight times more often than independent studies on the same item.

Clearly the system is both deeply flawed and rigged in favor of those who have the money. Despite all the claimed validity of mainstream studies, that did not prevent us from having rigged studies on Vioxx did it? Nor did it prevent rigged studies for decades on the safety and even claimed health benefits of smoking cigarettes. And those are just two examples in a very long list. Thalidomide, heroin, opium, cocaine, Avandia, Fosamax, Prozac, Paxil, Aleve, Bextra, Aspartame . .

The drug industry and their rigged studies and practices has been riddled with scandal again and again. Merck with its rigged and hidden studies on Vioxx. Pfizer, GlaxoKilineSmith, the list goes on and on and on and leaves virtually no major pharmaceutical company untouched:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2002/feb/07/research.health1

http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/extract/329/7460/247

Look at all the hits and damning evidence you get when you search for “drug company scandals”. Absolutely shameful!

The latest example:

http://www.healthiertalk.com/pfizer-caught-faking-it-again-1280.

No wonder a Harris Poll found that only 13% of Americans believe that pharmaceutical companies are “generally honest and trustworthy.”

One poster said they wanted to be 99% sure that something they put in their body was safe. If such is the case, why would they want to put mainstream drugs in their body when over 95% of them hav side effects, when millions of serious adverse reactions are reported each year and when over 140,000 deaths in hospitals and homes happen each year even when the drugs have been properly prescribed and administered? Risk versus reward, they say? Too often it appears that risk is downplayed while the main reward is billions in profits for the drug companie just like we saw the makers of Vioxx rake in billions of dollars while the body count piled up even higher than all the lives we lost in the Vietnam War. The same thing has been happening and continues to happen with Paxil:

http://www.tbyil.com/Depression_Drugs_Bare.htm

Meanwhile, major side effects caused by natural herbs are rare and deaths almost non-existent.

Some people will claim that nature is “woo” or that those who choose natural herbs have some kind of “religion”, but the truth is quite the opposite. True science is based on observation. Mankind has observed nature to work and has used nature for healing for thousands of years and most of the people in the world continue to do so, including several countries ranked above the U.S. (the world’s most medicated country) in health rankings. Despite all of our 15,000 plus approved drugs, our life expectancy ranks below 40 plus other countries and is closer to that of Mexico than it is the top 10 countries.

To claim that nature, from whence life itself came, is “woo” is patently absurd. Sure, we would all like to see scientific proof that anything we take is safe and effective, but when medical science has been whored off to the highest bidder far too often, I will choose what has been observed to work and what I myself have observed to work over what medical science with its poor record tells me will work and is safe.

I readily agree that just because something is natural does not mean that it will work or that it is safe, but I like the comparative safety records of nature versus approved drugs. And when it comes to working, the pharmaceutical industry itself admits that most of its drugs do not work for most people:

“The vast majority of drugs – more than 90 per cent – only work in 30 or 50 per cent of the people.” – Doctor Allen Roses, worldwide vice-president of genetics at GlaxoSmithKline and academic geneticist from Duke University

When you combine the record of safety and effectiveness of approved drugs with the fact that history has taught us again and again that the science of today has but a fraction of the answers and is often overturned tomorrow, I would say that blind belief in mainstream medicine is far more of a religion than belief in nature.

Ruth asks…

What alternatives to financial disaster does a family have when they are facing over $450K in medical bills?

The family has already had considerable bills paid by insurance, large amounts written off by the hospitals, doctors who quit charging. Still they have more than $450,000 in unpaid medical bills from more than a dozen labs, radiology clinics, peripheral doctors, etc. The patient had auto-immune hepatitis, treatment caused bone-marrow to be destroyed, bone marrow transplant, chemo, then got this awful fungus that invaded her sinuses/eyes. More surgeries, near death for almost a year. On the mend, but facing financial ruin.

Mary asks…

Does anyone know of an alternative method for treating an IBD known as Ulcertive Colitis?

I am actually looking for a naturalpathic treatment to compliment the medical not to replace it. A dietician, or medical/herbalist who has documentation of people that they have treated.

AndrewTraub answers:

Hello, I’ve had UC for over 2yrs. Are you looking for an actual name of a dietician or naturalpathic physician … Based that on asking for documentation. To avoid the scammers (and there are MANY), contact your local hospital and ask to speak with a dietician. In Canada you have to have a doctor’s referral which isn’t a problem if you have UC. Diet didn’t create the uclerative colitis and foods will not heal the ulcer. However, if you avoid citrus fruits and high fiber, usually you will have an easier time. Diet is unique in that a food I can eat, you might not be able to. Many people consume probiotics. Some follow the specific carboyhdrate diet. Others like me just take the meds, exercise, yoga to reduce stress, monitor foods that I can and cannot eat and go from there. There are also support groups in Yahoo Groups. As for a herbalist, check your yellow pages, meet face to face and ask for creditionals. There is no cure, so do not trust anyone that states there is and they will sell you the cure – no matter how much documentation they produce. As I said, there are scammers everywhere.

Laura asks…

Jehovah’s Servants & Medical Personnel. Some Q’s regarding blood & medical treatment.?

I know I could probably just search the index and find it myself.
But, I would like “a good Witness” for the nations, from Jehovah’s Servants; so I am asking here.
And the personal experience/ knowledge of medical professionals.
My neighbor & I were speaking yesterday.
She invited me to a birth date celebration.
I told her, I don’t do the birth date celebration thing,
she asked why,
I told her because I’m a Jehovah’s Witness.
Now, her bf comes along with “she can’t be a Jehovah’s Witness, because she gets blood transfusions”
Now, this I had just found out earlier in the day, because she was sick, & told me she’d probably be going to the hospital, to get a BT.
She has to take medicine for life, her grandmother told me.
We spoke about this for a little while.
I am quite sure there are alternative methods and healthier ones.
Even though I do not know the extent of her medical issues.
I know she may be a hemophiliac, or anemic.
So, are there safer alternate methods?
Are there alternatives to treating these 2 conditions?
Also, are there more than just the 2 medical conditions,
I mentioned, that Dr.’s treat with a BT?

For those thinking of answering with irrelevant 411
Please, do not leave answers that are irrelevant to the Q’s asked.
As I was making dinner tonight, and thinking about this issue.
It came to my mind; both my daughter’s have rare blood and cannot receive any donated blood; whatsoever,
without the very eminent threat of death.
What would it be, for a person who had this rare blood, like my daughters’ do; and a medical issue, that Dr.’s do treat with blood transfusions? Mmmmm? Makes me wonder…..
Obviously, the Dr. (s) would have to go with the bloodless approach.
I mean, give you blood to save your life; give you blood, kill you.
You Would Have to find an “ALTERNATIVE.”
Thank you Lenio.

AndrewTraub answers:

Also, if you google bloodless surgery you will find much info about Witnesses and their non blood use and substitutes. There is a lot of research being done at Loyola Medical Center close to where I live with substitute blood products. Also, Englewood Hospital in New Jersey has a lot of info. There are much better alternatives than whole blood. Disease free and a lot less expensive. With little or no side effects. Too bad the general public is so close minded to optional treatments. They are stuck in the past. Including many of the small town doctors I see here where I live.

Betty asks…

Jehovah’s Witnesses, what are these medical alternatives just as safe as transfusions for blood loss?

Someone asked a question earlier this evening about whether Jehovah’s Witnesses would allow a child to die from blood loss rather than allow a transfusion, and more than one Jehovah’s Witness claimed there are medical alternatives that are just as safe and effective as blood transfusions.

Okay, then. It’s time to treat John Smith, a ten year old boy whose leg was crushed in a car wreck.

Johnny made it to the hospital without major blood loss, but some of his arteries were damaged, and he began to bleed severely during the operation to repair his leg. The arteries have been clamped, but he has just lost 60% of his blood volume. Needless to say, Johnny is in severe hypovolemic shock. His pulse is weak and tachy, his blood pressure is dropping rapidly, he’s becoming non-responsive, and if something isn’t done immediately, he’s going to die.

What amazing bloodless treatments have you come up with that are just as effective as transfusing Johnny to save his life?

Inquiring minds want to know.
OMG Cat–

I know they sometimes will try to refuse a transfusion for their children, and I know they encourage their children to refuse the transfusion on their own as they grow older in the hopes the doctors and/or court will consider them old enough to refuse treatment rather than simply ignore religious preference and do what it takes to save the child’s life.

However, I really just want to know what medical alternative they have, because it’s often the case you can’t carefully prepare for situations where blood loss occurs. There is no being careful about it, and doctors frequently have minutes (and sometimes only seconds) to make the decision to start transfusing a patient.

So whatever “bloodless treatment” the Jehovah’s Witnesses have must be able to save such a patient’s life as well, or else it isn’t a safe, effective alternative to transfusion, but rather an attempt to prevent a situation where the need arises for one.

I want to know what that treatment is. What can th
Okay, I’m not sure why it cut that last remark off mid-sentence. By the way, we don’t usually get paid to donate blood here, either. It’s just juice and a cookie.

AndrewTraub answers:

=============== ALTERNATIVES =====================

The loss of blood volume and low oxygen levels are the major reasons doctors transfuse blood. Blood volume levels can be replaced without using whole blood or blood plasma. The simplest is saline (salt) solution, which is both inexpensive and compatible with our blood. There are also fluids with special properties, such as Dextran, Haemaccel, and lactated Ringer’s solution and Hetastarch (HES). {Such fluids have definite advantages; they are relatively nontoxic and inexpensive, readily available, can be stored at room temperature, require no compatibility testing and are free of the risk of transfusion-transmitted disease} Physicians can also help their patients to form more red cells by giving them iron-containing preparations (into muscles or veins), which can aid the body in making red cells three to four times faster than normal. Your kidneys produce a hormone called erythropoietin (EPO), which stimulates bone marrow to form red cells. Now, synthetic (recombinant) EPO is available. {Doctors may give this to some anemic patients, helping them to form replacement red cells very quickly.***Cooling a patient to lessen his oxygen needs during surgery*Laser “scalpels”*Hypotensive anesthesia*Therapy to improve coagulation*The heart-lung machine*Desmopressin (DDAVP) to shorten bleeding time. Blood salvaging, Acute normovolemic hemodilution;Hypervolemic hemodilution

**Operations can successfully be performed using combination of the blood expanders and the surgical procedures highlighted above, without the use of blood or blood products}**

True Meaning of the Art Therapy Salary

November 28, 2011 by AndrewTraub

Very few people get into art therapy because the art therapy salary is terrific and wonderful, paying much more than anything else involving art. A lot of things vary with the number crunching–location, experience, private practice, general practice, if there is a need where the job is, and how much time you want to commit. Art therapy salary usually ranges out to five cents an hour, it is said by those who work for other reasons besides the paycheck.

A good rule of thumb is to research online, which may or may not be close to what you want or what you will get. A median range of salaries per year, with no surprise to anyone that California pays the most, in the United States is:
• California $42,490
• Illinois $42,110
• New York $40,955
• New Jersey $37,061
• Pennsylvania $34,701
• Virginia $30,215
• North Carolina $28,327

As with most jobs, especially those on salary, the more experience a person has the higher the money to be paid. With an art therapy salary, a range of 10 to 19 years will pay approximately about $41,058 annually. If a person is in private practice and has a decent number of clients, then this number could go up to $70,000 or so. But if a person is just starting out with one to four years, expect only about $35,331 annually or with five to nine year, an annual salary of $38,466 can be expected.

The location of the city, instead of the state, varies a lot in the expected art therapy salary. New York ranged about $41,366 annually with nine positions open, as compared to Philadelphia at $33,590 annually with only four positions open. In the middle range is Chicago, with an estimated $42,764 annual salary and seven positions open. Other cities are listed at the bottom, not because they are the cheapest but because they refuse to acknowledge what their salaries are to the general public unless an application is filled out and submitted: Portland, Charlotte, Atlanta, and Louisville.

Art therapy salaries are difficult to say, as the position of Art Therapist is not in their own category but in other occupations:
• Community and Social Service Specialists
• Recreational Therapists
• All other therapists

From all of the above information, it can be surmised that the average annual salary for an average art therapist is $36,600 annually with a range between $30,700 and $43,200 per year. As stated, if a person has a private practice, lots of experience, lives in a certain well-paying location, and if there is a huge demand for them–the salary could be doubled.

A long way up the hill from college and a master’s level education, the desire to help and work with troubled people is much more important than making it rich. And with the education required, it has to come from the heart. In order to become an Art Therapist that is registered, a minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised postgraduate service must be completed.

I need a 2011 calendar template for Quark?

Does anyone know where I can download a 2011 calendar template for Quark?

Thanks in advance

AndrewTraub answers:

Template can mean so many different things in Quark and also the word calendar has 50 sub-words under calendar catagory, eg Day_of_year; Day_of_Week; Day_of_Month; First_Day_in_Month.

A google reveals a lot of hits (including your question here). Many jits saying free templates.

Otherwise, I have made many calendar programs that save out in PDF, or spreadsheet, or .svg or bitmaps. If you need the csv (comma separated values) that will open in a spreadsheet, just say so and if your 7 day week starts on a Sunday or a Monday.

Your Questions About Frys

Charles asks…

Does Frys let you test if your power supply is busted or not for free?

i have a power supply i’m not sure if it’s working or not. When i plugs it and turn on the computer, the fan moves for a second and then stop. i switch off and on, and turn it on again. same thing happens.
is it like a power supply failure or a motherboard related failure?

if i go to frys and ask them to test if it’s working or not, do you think they will test it for free?

AndrewTraub answers:

Most computer shops will test it for you for free. All they do is simply plug your PSU into a power supply tester — you can easily buy one of these for $20, a good tool to have in your toolkit.

James asks…

How do I get an online position at an electronics company like Frys or Best Buy?

Without a degree. I have the know-how, just not the paper.
Where can I apply for them? I cant find a site.

AndrewTraub answers:

You don’t need a degree, but you may need to live in Mumbai :-)

Go to their Web sites and see under careers how you can apply; however, Online stores are a completely different business. They also may be located in Canada or outside the US.

Donna asks…

whats the difference from frys and bestbuy 16gb ipod touch 2g?

whats the diffrence?
is frys ipod cheaper older or why is it 10$ cheaper?

AndrewTraub answers:

Frys always has good deals. I highly doubt there is any difference at all. Frys is kind of like the wal-mart of electronics stores.

Anyone have good, easy and quick to make recipe ideas to change from eating pasta and stir-frys?

We eat pastas and stir-fry often at home. But i need more recipe ideas to change from the pasta, stir-fry, meat&patatoe routine. Anyway have any ideas? Thanks for all you help!!
I am looking for recipes that are healthy for my husband, my toddler (2yrs old) and I. We don’t really like deep-fried food and Im looking to find recipes that are easy to prepare when you dont have much time to prepare it. I get home late sometimes and i need to feed me and my son, then bathe him, etc…so i want something fast and easy to prepare while he plays in the house.

Thanks again for all the great answers.

AndrewTraub answers:

Oven-Fried Honey Chicken

1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons balsamic or red wine vinegar
1 1/2 cups dried bread crumbs
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
6 (4 to 6-ounce) fresh boneless, skinless chicken breasts, halves
Preheat oven to 375°F.
In a shallow bowl, whisk together honey and vinegar. Set aside.
Place bread crumbs into a separate bowl. Set aside.
Spread oil over foil-lined baking pan large enough to hold all chicken pieces in one layer.
Roll chicken pieces in honey mixture, then in bread crumbs; place onto prepared pan.
Bake for 30 minutes*, or until cooked thoroughly.
Makes 5 servings.

*Note: Chicken Test for Doneness (per Washington Fryer Commission)

No matter what method you use for cooking chicken, the most accurate test for doneness is a meat thermometer. Since chicken is never ready to be served unless it is done, always be sure it is completely cooked. Whole or bone-in chicken should reach an internal temperature of 180°F, and boneless chicken should be cooked to 165°F.
Other indicators for doneness include:

A fork or toothpick can be inserted with ease.
The juices should be clear, not pink.
Bone joints move easily.

Laura asks…

How many hours a week do you work at Frys food and drug?

Your Questions About Alternative Medical Treatments

November 26, 2011 by AndrewTraub

Donald asks…

People who choose alternative methods to cancer treatment…..Who gives them the diagnosis of cancer?

This is a hot potato. Really contentious. This isn’t a question about whether people should or shouldn’t choose alternative cancer treatments it’s a question of CHOICE and FREE WILL.
What I would like to know is who else can give them a definitive diagnosis of cancer except an MD?

Now if a patient chooses a different track than conventional medicine is it fair to say they are being denied conventional medicine by misinformed quacks?
Instead have these people chosen to turn their back on conventional medicine and have chosen to seek an alternative?
I don’t know anyone who has consulted a homeopath first and been told “you have ______ Cancer” to then be told not to see their MD to confirm the diagnosis or go anywhere near the conventional treatment protocols.

Of course it is wrong to mislead people that you can cure them of cancer when you cannot (with ANY form of medicine) but in the cases where people are aware of the risks aren’t they entitled to exercise choice and free will?
These people are all free to consult with the conventional medical profession at any time (outside the US. In the US you may not be able to if you can’t afford it)

Many will have seen friends suffer terribly form chemo and conventional cancer treatments only for them to die anyway.
Aren’t we allowed to exercise free will?
Its like that in most of the developed world.

I keep reading about a few isolated cases of people that have died after undergoing altmed treatment for Cancer. Although this is sad the people had the choice to see a conventional doctor but chose not to.

AndrewTraub answers:

In addition to the previous answer, alternative therapies are often encouraged by Medics in the UK

.I have often said “If it makes you feel better running through a field at midnight-as long as it isn’t going to get you arrested-Do it!!”

Donna asks…

Are there any websites that have videos that teach you alternative medicine, how it works, and things like that?

Also are there any websites that have medical videos like what the disease is.what causes it,the symptoms, the treatment, and things like that as well? And just medical videos in General like anatomy, physiology, and other types of medical studies? Thanks very much.

AndrewTraub answers:

Your best place to learn is at the library. There are many alternative medical disciplines so you need to find a starting point and what interests you the most. You can find web sites by just Googling human anatomy, etc. And of course there are books that you can take on loan from the library or purchase through Amazon.
There are established colleges and schools for natural medicine all over the world.

Maria asks…

Would I qualify for Medical Marijuana in Colorado?

I’m a 24yr old female from illinois but am looking to move to denver, colorado soon. I have suffered from seizures my entire life from head trauma as a child and have tried numerous medications which caused many side effects and I want an alternative treatment. My most recent medication was trileptal, which I just had my neurologist take me off of it because it made me extremely anxious, painful cotton mouth, digestive problems, and I also had unrealistic fears when I was in public along with numerous other side effects. I never had any of these problems prior to taking this medication, but I couldn’t stand to go another day with these problems that trileptal caused me. I have been off of the trileptal for almost 2 months now and do feel ‘off’ and space out quite a bit, it’s sad that I’d rather deal with that then have to try out another new anti-convulsant that causes more health problems that I dont need. I at least don’t have the horrible side effects that the medication brought on. Anyway, my question is would I be able to qualify for medical marijuana in colorado (once I’m a resident) although I took myself off of my current medication because of the horrible side effects? I’d really love to be able to control the seizure disorder with an alternative medicine as opposed to the pills that caused me more harm than good. If I would qualify, how would I go about getting a medical marijuana license?

AndrewTraub answers:

That is a question that will have to wait until you have an M.D. In Colorado. Some deem it a viable alternative medicine, others as an illegal drug. Find one who is sympathetic to your condition.

Robert asks…

Anyone know of any good sarcoma specialists, preferably in Northern, CA?

Mom has uterine leiomyosarcoma, she’s gone through a first round of chemo, but her medical oncologist was not a sarcoma specialist and he doesn’t want to continue treatment nor offer integrative / alternative treatments. Need to get some leads.

AndrewTraub answers:

Your mother should locate the nearest sarcoma center . . Or be treated by a sarcoma specialist and not just a regular oncologist. The Sarcoma Alliance has put together a list of sarcoma centers that you can contact or ask to be referred . .there are at least seven in California.

Jenny asks…

Are there any people here in yahoo answers who will ask for medical advice..?

concerning a physical issue, and then try to sue that person for giving it. I’ve heard about how people will ask for help from ordinary people like myself because they are too poor to visit the doctor or just have lousy medical health care. And then when someone tells them to try using an herb, or alternative treatment, such as holistic medicine and then when they try it, they might get sick and then try to sue that person who gave the friendly advice. Such people are not worth helping and this is the sort of thing about other human beings in general who inspires me to be very selfish with what knowledge that I have. There was a topic on the news on tv a few days ago about how people on Facebook were giving out free advice on herbal or alternative healing and then ended getting sued by the people who took the advice and got sick.

AndrewTraub answers:

I understand that all of the people who answer here are not profession, most of them are young people. They share only their experiences and these experiences are very valuable and add some insight to what we get through search or asking a doctor.
I usually try to answer very broadly and your question informed me to be more cautious in the future.

Your Questions About 104.3

November 25, 2011 by AndrewTraub

Michael asks…

What is the quickest way to solve subnetting problems for valid host IP addresses given the subnet mask ?

Example: subnet mask 255.255.255.248
Pick the valid host IP addresses
1) 192.168.200.87
2) 194.10.10.104
3) 223.168.210.100
4) 220.100.100.154
5) 200.152.2.160
6) 196.123.142.190

AndrewTraub answers:

If you can’t use the calculator it’s still just as easy.

255 in the subnet ususally means the netblock can’t change.
Go to the first netblock in the subnet without 255 and solve

255 254 252 248 240 224 192 128 right.
0 1 2 4 8 16 32 64

It’s always easier to write it out. ALWAYS! I still do.
Everyone makes mistakes.
Two IPs are for NetID and broadcast so just subtract by two.

248 = 4

1. Is a wan link. 2 ips / 80 is divisible by 4 so .84 to .87
.85 & .86 usuable
2. .104 is the NetID
3. .100 is the NetID
4. .154 is usuable w/ .155
5. 160 is NetID
6. .190 is usuable with.189

CIDRs will do the same as subnets but notate them in shorthand.

All IPs listed above have a CIDR of 30
shown as “192.168.200.87/30″

Understanding Chinese Herbal Medicine

November 24, 2011 by AndrewTraub
Filed under Alternative Medical Treatments, Art, Herbal

Maintaining health by restoring the balance of energy, body and spirit is the main focus of Chinese herbal medicine. The difference between the methods of Chinese herbal medicine and traditional methods is that instead of the herbs being used to treat a particular disease or condition in Chinese herbal medicine is that the herbs are used to nourish the body. Imbalances in the body can be detected by the appearance of the skin, hair, tongue, eyes, pulse and can be heard in the voice. A variety of herbs are used, in different combinations, to help restore balance to the body. These combinations of herbs are created to treat the main complaint or patterns of the patient’s symptoms instead of the underlying cause. Use of the Chinese herbal medicine method of treatment helps to restore the bodies balance, resulting in the patient being healthier in mind, body and soul.

The make-up of Chinese herbal medicine

Herbal medicine is administered in numerous ways, from teas to powders, pills, tinctures and syrups. Herbal formulations typically contain anywhere from four to twelve different plant based ingredients. In China there are over 3,200 different herbs to choose from. There are 300 different mineral and animal extracts available. Currently there are over 400 different herbal formulations that are used. To make these formulations effective, one or two herbs are chosen that will have the greatest impact on the major aspects of the problem. The other herbs that are used in the formulation work in a variety of ways from treating the minor aspects of the formula to helping the other herbs work more effectively. The minor herbs also help direct the herbal formula to specific parts of the body.

History of Chinese herbal medicine

Chinese medicine has been firmly established since 200 BC, however a listing of medicinal herbs and formulations were not developed until the first century AD. During the Ming Dynasty (1152-1578) a classic book on medicinal herbs, which lists nearly 2,000 different herbs and extracts, was written by Li Shi-Zhen. When Western conventional medicine began spreading to the East many of the traditional herbal medicines began to be regarded as folklore. Interesting enough the Chinese government has supported the use of both traditional and Western medicine since 1949. Traditional Chinese medicine began to gain popularity in the United States during the 1970’s after President Richard Nixon paid a visit to China and continues to remain a popular alternative today.

Traditional Chinese medicine can be used in conjunction with traditional medical practices provided you choose a health care practitioner that is knowledgeable in both fields. As with any medicine there are side effects and possible drug interactions, so before deciding that Chinese herbal medicine is right for you, talk to your health care provider.

Your Questions About 105.9

William asks…

what is the techno song that plays on amp radio and 105.9?

It’s been playing a lot lately but everytime I try to check the title of the song on power 106 it just gives me “where hip hop lives” instead of the title like usual. I hear it everywhere!! I want to dl it but I don’t know how to find it. It’s some techno-ish type music in the beginning and a woman singing in the chorus. It’s mostly just techno though, little to no words.

AndrewTraub answers:

OMG i had that SAME problem and it took me like 3 hours of surfing the internet and i finally think i found it and its called stereo love by edward maya atleast it was for me and it sounded like what u were asking for

Maria asks…

about 2 hours ago power 105.9 played a song a rap remix to zombies time of the seasons, who sings it?

was it just a radio remix never to be heard again from some unknown dj?

AndrewTraub answers:

Omg i just downloaded that song its called “Who’s your daddy” by Mook n fair

u can look it up on youtube to be sure its right.

I <3 it though

Helen asks…

Does an HTC Droid Incredible have a stereo?

I want to get a phone that has, the ability to play the radio channels (94.1,105.9 exc.) but I don’t know what a phone has or what it’s called that does that. So does it have a radio button or is there a really awesome app I could get that would let me play the radio almost like I’m in a car?
Thanks for the help if you answer!

AndrewTraub answers:

Nope, but you can get cool apps like Pandora/Slacker radio witch is like a radio but you pick the station you wanna hear and it will play songs like it (or the band you picked) it’s neat

Mary asks…

What radio station plays songs like Dashboard Confessionals – Hands Down?

I was wondering what radio station plays chill songs like Hands Down. I’m not sure what genre of music that is. Currently I only know 102.7 105.9 and 98.7

I’m also interested in songs like Oasis – Wonderwall, RHCP, Jimmy eats world – The middle, etc. Basically Rock Band songs (excluding metal)

AndrewTraub answers:

Oasis is a great band!!

Good Luck!!

Robert asks…

What are the songs called, in which short parts of different songs are organized into one long song? PLZ HELP!?

I’ve been listening to Power 106, 105.9 In Los Angeles, and they always play these long songs which have parts of other songs put in them. How can I download those songs?????

AndrewTraub answers:

Depends on how its done… If its different parts of different songs strung together its probably known as a medley.

However if its different parts of different songs overlayed to create “a new song” in effect i.e. Overlaying the vocals of one song over the instrumental of another, this is refereed to as a “mash-up” for a great example of this view “as heard on radio soulwax part2 by 2many Djs

as to how you con download these songs… If its a medley, and legally, probably with great difficulty though you could try the various download sites…

Same for mashups. If its been an official release it will be out there, if unofficial again, you will struggle withing legal means….

If you don’t care about the legality of the download, then you could try either p2p software such as limewire, or bittorrent. I’d suggest searching things like “song title + medley” with as many of the song titles or artists as you know

Your Questions About Alternative Medical Treatments

November 23, 2011 by AndrewTraub

Linda asks…

What alternatives are there to randomized double blind trials?

http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/chris/2003/09/08/double_blind_randomized_trials.htm
Clinical trials, comparative trials.
Seems the pharmaceutical interests are propagandizing the notion, but the reality is that 80% of conventional medical treatments don’t qualify either for many reasons.
Seems there’s a double standard that’s being applied when it comes to non drug and non surgical treatments that people are not aware of.

AndrewTraub answers:

This is a problem.
I was doing an MSc in Osteopathic Sports care. When we did the modules on research methods the major problem with RCT’s was how to get research Of Osteopathic treatments to fit in with them. During a treatment I might do 10 different techniques, prescribe some exercises and advise ice packing.
RCT’s would require doing each technique in isolation. That isn’t osteopathic in principle. Why should we change our philosophy to please medicine?

We came to the conclusion that another research model needed to be developed.
So far no one has come up with anything suitable.

Please let me know if anyone does.

Ruth asks…

Looking for alternative treatment options.?

I am posting this in ALTERNATIVE medicine. She is getting plenty of medical help at the hospital. She may be getting an overdose of drugs there and is suffering severe complications from a brain trauma. She may be able to start digesting something soon, and I would like to bring her (my 19 year old) some herbal remedies to help speed up her healing. She is very weak, lethargic, has no memory of who she is, still in pain, and I want to pick up some teas/supplements/herbs for her to start on. And yes, I’m listening to the doctors and nurses, however, they seem to be getting mad at her not responding to them after they’ve been pumping her with sedatives for the past 3 days. I’m pursuing legal assistance, but I would like some advice on alternative therapies to help get her mind in good shape. I don’t think morphine and propofol are helping her regain consciousness. The staff could not find any physical complications so they keep sedating her to keep her from agitating everyone.

AndrewTraub answers:

Miss
i spent 9 years working the OR, Darnell Army Hospital, FT Hood, Brook Army Medical Center, San Antonio, and 3 civilian hospitals.

In that time, we had very few deaths in the OR. Some were expected from trauma and such, others from bad health. But we had a few very healthy ASA 1 patients that died, no explaination, no reason, but they just died.

It took about 20 months to solve these and other deaths around the nation. The cause of the deaths were incompatibilities with herbs or things bought at health food stores that interacted with the drugs in the patients.

This is one of the reasons they are trying to keep people from getting things at health stores. There is big money in it and the drug companies want that money, using the deaths as leverage.

I am not telling you not to seek health alternatives, but do keep your doctor in the loop. If she is on drug x and you give her herbal tea y, you might get compound z forming and that would harm your daughter.

Also, I have a good friend who survived a TBI and if you email me, I will see if she wants to talk to you. She was not expected to live, and is currently finishing college.

I think she would, but she could help you to understand what your daughter is going through, as she still has problems to this day as a result of it, sleeping being on the problems as well as some stress over the years she lost recovering.

Chris asks…

questions about medical marijuana?

hi, i’m a college student in CA who’s interested in learning more about using marijuana for medicinal purposes. i suffer from frequent headaches and migraines as well as prolonged, painful menstrual cramps. i’ve never brought these issues to my doctor but rather dealt with them on my own.

at school, i’ve used marijuana recreationally and found that it drastically reduced my pain for all these conditions (much more than any painkiller, prescribed or over the counter). i’d like to talk to a doctor about getting a card, but i’m unsure as to how to go about it.

do i speak to my family doctor, or can i go to any doctor in my school’s area? do i have to have a documented medical history which includes several alternative treatments for my conditions? and should i mention that the recreational use of marijuana brought me so much relief?

thanks for any help!

AndrewTraub answers:

Honestly, i dont think ur gonna get the go ahead to use medical marijuana. My friend had a hard enough time getting to use it and he is going through extremely painful bone cancer. Headaches and menstrual cramps wont fly. They might prescribe some other medicine…but not marijuana.

Yeah OK, the doctors going to laugh in your face. Medicinal Marijuana is for the serious ill(Cancer Patients), not little problems that a baby could handle.

Its people like you that ruins it for everyone else.
