Reiki Training – What Does It Involve?

September 30, 2011 by AndrewTraub

Reiki training is fairly straight forward, and is usually done in four steps – or depending on the Master teaching it, perhaps three steps. Level One Reiki training is focused on self-healing and helping others. This reiki training usually takes anywhere from one to four days before students are able to practice reiki and do self-healing.
At level one of reiki training, students learn the history of Reiki, the energy system, the nature of the reiki energy, ethics, the five principles of reiki, the three pillars of reiki, the hand positions, how to do a self-healing session and how to do a session for others. As you can see, this is fairly comprehensive Level One Reiki training.
If you will to take your reiki training to the next level, then you will be working at Level Two. The focus of this level is to learn the Japanese healing symbols and on sending Reiki from a distance. By the way, you do NOT under any circumstances do a distance healing without permission first. The ONLY time there may be an exception to this stricture is if the person is unconscious or has dementia.
In that instance, you seek permission of their higher self/spirit, and you ask three times. If you can’t get a clear answer, then try sending distance treatment. If it flows, then you have been given permission. If it does not, and you will know that because the energy won’t “go” anywhere, then you cease sending.
For Level Two reiki training, it’s a good idea to wait for at least three weeks to make sure level one is properly ingrained into the student. Of course this depends on the student and their abilities. Along with the above teachings, there will, or should be, a good in-depth discussion on getting rid of unwanted habits, empowering your own personal goals and making permanent changes in your life. The Japanese healing symbols and techniques are then introduced into your reiki training and you practice sending distance treatments (usually to other students who have given permission for a distance treatment).
Your Level Three A training is usually the Master Practitioner or advanced practitioner. The master symbol is given at this level of reiki training, but you are not taught how to attune others or teach reiki.
The next level if your course is taught in four steps is the Level Three Master/Teacher. The focus here would be on attuning others to reiki energy and on teaching reiki to others. In some cases an essay is requested of the student outlining why they wish to become a reiki master/teacher. The essay is discussed in great detail, as this is a solemn undertaking and one of much responsibility. The benefits of living a spirit-based life are talked about as well. The master symbol is introduced and practiced.

Your Questions About Alternative Medical Treatments

Steven asks…

Alternative treatments for sweaty hands/feet?

I have palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis (really, really sweaty hands and feet, most of the time). I’ve been to a dermatologist and she prescribed Drysol, but that does pretty much nothing. She said the next thing would be to buy a medical shock-treatment type machine to send mild electrical currents through my hands and feet. I’m really not crazy about putting extra chemicals into my body or zapping myself, and I’d rather do some kind of natural treatment. What’s the best thing? I’ve heard sage tea, but drinking it only helps a little, and that only for a little while. Also, I’m 15. Will it go away?

AndrewTraub answers:

Homeopathy would probably be your best bet. Attached below is a web site that is the next best thing to visiting a homeopath in person. They will, of course, want you to buy from them; but feel free to go to your local health food store to purchase the remedies they recommend.

If homeopathy doesn’t take care of this for you, I would suggest your next stop would be a visit to a naturopath. You can check at the health food store to see if there is one in the area that they recommend. If not, you can check out the second link below to find one in your state.

Please feel free to email me with any questions.

Joseph asks…

Do you know of alternative treatments to surgery for protruding L5/S1?

My husband is a 36 y.o. carpenter and has undergone an MRI and is receiving physiotherapy for a moderately protruding L5. The next option is epidural injections and then surgery. Do you have any experience with any of these procedures or know of any alternatives to these? We have no medical insurance or income protection and would like to try all options before surgery to try avoiding loss of quality of life and of course income. If you know of any professionals who have successfully treated this in South East Queensland or even Australia I would be interested in hearing from you.

AndrewTraub answers:

I would continue with the physiotherapy and consider accupuncture and also some lifestyle modifications, such as weight loss (if overweight), eating less foods that cause inflammation and more that reduce inflammation (basically less meat and more fruits and veggies. Also take anti-inflammatory agents such as asprin or naproxen according to label instructions. I’m not a hippie–in fact I’m a pharmacist, but I really don’t believe that chiropractors or spinal surgery for disc problems do a lot. A recent study showed that a lot of people have protruding discs, but they only cause trouble in a few people. So with these above changes, hopefully a conservative course will help it heal in its own time. My mom has lower back problems and she got some epidural steriod injections, and they do help temporarily. Those are probably ok. But her surgery did not increase her movement ability or lessen her pain. Also if there is nerve pain involved consider taking Neurontin (gabapentin) for pain.

John asks…

Are there any alternatives to medical treatment for rosacea?

Recently I’ve begun having episodes of facial flushing and stinging on my cheeks and chin. The flushing goes away eventually (after a day or so) but I’m pretty sure it’s rosacea, given my family history of the disease.

I really don’t want to take antibiotics long term and I’m not thrilled at long term use of any drugs so I’m looking for alternatives to manage this problem.

AndrewTraub answers:

The antibiotic that is given is tetracycline in a low dose. I have been on it for at least 7 years. There are no side effects if you are an adult that I know of. In children it will turn their teeth yellow.

Lizzie asks…

Should we stop testing medicines and treatments (alternative or otherwise) for effectiveness?

Can you ever do enough studies to prove an alternative medicine is no better than placebo?

The National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine has spent $2.5 billion and almost every study has shown negative results.

Is this money well spent? How much is enough?

http://content.usatoday.net/dist/custom/gci/InsidePage.aspx?cId=azcentral&sParam=30941257.story

Or, should we simply not test any medicine for effectiveness? Should all medicines and medical treatments simply be tested for safety, but leave it up to the patients and doctors to decide if it actually is effective?
.

A couple people questioned how much money has been spent on studies of conventional medicine that had negative results. But there’s one key difference. A conventional treatment that is no better than placebo is eventually abandoned.

Alt med therapies are only abandoned if they’re found to be unsafe, but they’re never abandoned for being ineffective. So long as they can be sold, they perpetuate.

AndrewTraub answers:

No – medical science does not work that way. Effective medicines are developed through rigorous testing and trials. If some natural chemical is shown to have an effect it should be tested too – active ingredients need to be isolated, purified, synthesized – what ever is required to produce a valid and sustainable product.

However I don’t see any reason to persist with studies that continually show no efficacy beyond placebo, or are implausible and in some cases break the laws of physics, ie: homeopathy, acupuncture.

It is very important to weed out the nonsense from the real medicine, people’s health is at risk. I’m sure you are aware of the homeopath in Australia who has just been convicted of manslaughter for treating his 9 month old baby with homeopathy for eczema. He rejected real medicine and the baby subsequently died a horrible (preventable) death.

How can anyone make an informed decision about the health of their families without supporting data?

And what would we skeptics have to do with our time?

Ken asks…

What are some alternative treatments for Mesothelioma?

I’ve just found out that my step-dad was diagnosed and medical treatment doesn’t offer much hope. What else is out there? What produces measurable results?
Please don’t respond to my question if you’re only in the alternative medicine category to voice you’re objection to it’s practice. No one here cares.
The statics I’ve read put the fatality rate at about 88.7 percent. If you can get me some stars and put this on the starred question list… maybe you can help save his life.
It’s hard to accept that he’ll probably die. /cry
What are the advantages of contacting attorneys? My parents will have to decide how they want to handle any legal issues but I will take advantage of all resources available to me. It seems unlikely that the attorney will have much advice regarding alternative medicines.
Challenging my question is very inappropriate of you. Leave.

AndrewTraub answers:

Ignore the “duck,” he has no experience in medicine and is a nuisance at best; a self appointed health policeman? A drug company hold over member? On the payroll of a drug company?

Mesothelioma is a very destructive problem that affects the ability of the lymphatic system to work well. I don’t have any experience with this problem specifically, but do have some suggestions that do not involve drugs or surgery. Cleaning up and detoxing the lungs are something I do have some experience with and have had some good success. People who were victims of that genetically engineered L-tryptophan product made in Japan a few years ago and suffered for years of coughing up chunks of lung, etc. Have found some great relief in using alternative medicine. The main stream medical community had no solutions and many of those people died as a result.

There is a product that cleans the mucus glands and lungs like nothing else I have seen. A man that coughed chunks of lung for about 20 years found complete relief using this product. It is inexpensive and easy to take. It may be worth trying and along with other nutritional support for the immune system, you may have a chance at helping your dad.

E-mail me and I will get you the information if you are interested.

Watch for the swarm of Medi-Nerds to arrive and blast your question with their indoctrination.

EDIT: “Rhianna” You may be surprised, but no one is taking you seriously on this site from the many e-mails I get thanking me for my advice and telling me how their health has improved greatly from that advice. I’m finding most people are fed up with “modern medicine” that you are promoting and tired of spending 5 minutes with a doctor and then prescribed some pill to try and see if that works. Like the other poster here, we are not afraid of you in any way and the sad thing is that people you are here to harass, not to actually help people. It’s obvious what the so called “skeptics” and medi-nerds are here to do. Not one comment from that “peanut gallery” is being taken seriously by most people asking questions on this site. People are looking for ALTERNATIVES to medical people because it is NOT WORKING FOR THEM. The alternative treatments are working and I see this everyday.

Good luck to you

Your Questions About Fox News

David asks…

Fox News always says it is the leading News program but their ratings are miniscule compared to real networks?

Why don’t they tell the truth about 3% of the people who watch news watch Fox. The vast majority watch one of the three big networks.

AndrewTraub answers:

Yes

This is true. More people watch CBS News than the FOX NEWS. That is a fact.

Sandra asks…

Why do Fox News and CNN have such a difference in the amount of delegates each candidate has recieved?

I have been watching the 2008 presidential election religiously. I noticed that Obama is a lot closer according to Fox News than he is on CNN. As of this moment, Obama is 42 behind on Fox News, and 72 behind on CNN. How can 2 different news sources have 2 completely different totals?

AndrewTraub answers:

Some results include the superdelegates and some do not. A superdelegate is basically someone with power within the party–Democratic representatives, senators, governors, etc. Superdelegates also include former Presidents (Bill, anyone?), Speakers of the House, Senate Majority and Minority Leaders, and so on. Clinton has more of these superdelegates pledged to her, but some news stations are not counting them until the convention.

Mary asks…

Is 20th Century Fox financing of the movie Avatar proof that Fox News is just a front for a liberal conspira?

Avatar is clearly Left Wing propaganda and yet it was financed by the same people who own Fox News. Was Fox News set up by Fox to make the Republican movement look like idiots?

AndrewTraub answers:

Fox News is really Rupert Murdoch’s political perspectives disguised as news and Rupert hates all Democrats. He has lots of money and this is how he spends it. His media network in Asia also must agree with his opinions.

Robert asks…

Why is Fox News giving free media exposure to a couple of class clowns?

A few idiots decide to play retro over an ancient, long ago defunct organization(the surviving founding members of the original black panthers issued a joint statement declaring there was no such thing as a ‘new’ black panthers) and Fox News gives them tons of free media exposure. They’re a nothing/nobody posse that doesn’t matter to anyone. Don’t they know the class clown acts up because he *wants* the attention?

AndrewTraub answers:

Don’t worry about it. The news is slow lately. And the fourteen year old Conservatives are just having fun stoking racial tensions.

Sharon asks…

How is Fox news channel 1st in the ratings?

According to the polls, avery small percentage of Americans identify themselves as Republicans, much less as “right wingers”. So how can it be that Fox News leads in the TV ratings?

AndrewTraub answers:

Fox News is the only channel for right wing republicans, whereas liberals tune into many different cable news channels, MSNBC, CNN, etc. So lets say you’ve got 25 republicans and 75 liberals. Those 25 all watch Fox. But 20 liberals watch MSNBC, 20 watch CNN, 20 watch CNBC, and 15 watch PBS. Who wins? Fox. While the other stations divide up a large group, FOX brings one smaller group together in one place. Make sense?

Your Questions About 1800 Flowers

September 28, 2011 by AndrewTraub

William asks…

does 1800 flowers reveal your billing address?

I want to send my girlfriend a little present and some flowers but I don’t want her to know its me right away. Do they attact where the flowers wre sent from according to your billing address or anything like that? I know you can sign the card but is that all they show? Thanks

AndrewTraub answers:

They won’t tell her where it’s from it will just have your note on there if you send one otherwise she’ll just receive them.

Nancy asks…

How does 1800 Flowers Deliver?

Okay, my Girlfriend is going to be across the Country this Valentine’s Day, and I’ve been looking at some stuff from 1800Flowers.com, and I see some stuff I want to send her. Flowers will deliver it straight to her door, but I’m wanting to know if they’ll leave my name, or anything like that. On some of the stuff, I want it to say my name, while on others, I want it to say My Teddy Bear, and on some stuff, I don’t want my name at all. I greatly appreciate any help.

AndrewTraub answers:

DON”T USE 1-800 FLOWERS!! – you will be so disappointed and so will she!!

Call a florist directly in the town she will be staying in, the sooner the better. Let the florist know EXACTLY what you want delivered, if you arrange to send it a day earlier – even better.

When you use 1-800 Flowers, they take a percentage off the top – for doing nothing except forwarding your order to a florist, who may forward it again if there is not enough money for the flowers you have ordered.

Depending on how much you plan on spending, you will get FAR more flowers and better service if you call a local florist directly.

Mark asks…

I tried 1800 flowers… I need flowers delivered at a certain time, I live in Orange County So. Cali?

I want flowers delivered to my girlfriend while she is at work, and I want to eliminate any chance they would get there during her lunch. 1-800 flowers can not garuntee this.

Can anyone give me the number/website to a place that can aquiest my request?
I would prefer to take them myself…but she doesn’t have the type of job where I can just walk in. =(

AndrewTraub answers:

Find a florist nearest to her job and have them deliver it.

Robert asks…

Does 1800 Flowers Include A Card?

I’m want to send my girlfriend some flowers for her birthday (we’re about 2000 miles apart for the time being because of college). She’s turning 19 and I’d like to send 19 roses. I’ve checked online places like FTD, Pro Flowers, and 1800 flowers. It seems I can only get 12 or 18 roses so it looks like I’ll just have to get 18 and I guess I’ll go with 1800 flowers.

My question is, does 1800 Flowers send some kind of personalized card along with the bouquet? The flowers I picked aren’t in a “birthday” arrangement but I’d like a birthday card along with the flowers. For those who have ordered from 1800 flowers, when you order do they give you the option of adding a personalized card or something like that? Will I have to buy a “birthday” arrangement to get a card?

Also, how do these arrive? If I get roses with a vase are they already in the vase in a box or something? How does it work?

Thanks.
Hey dude, I’m just making sure. It doesn’t say it comes with one, nor does it ask me for a personal message right before I place the order. I have never dealt with this place and I have never ordered flowers. I’m just curious.

AndrewTraub answers:

You’re in college and you are asking this????

Ruth asks…

My calendar stops at December 2011, does that mean the world will end then?

People think that the world will end in 2012 because that’s when the mayan calendar ends.

So by that logic, the world will end on Dec. 31, 2011 according to my calendar hanging on the wall.

So what plans do you have for the apparent apocalypse?

AndrewTraub answers:

1. The Mayans had a secular calendar like our Gregorian calendar. Their long count calendar is entirely different.

2. There is nothing in the ancient Mayan texts that say it is the end of the world – just the end of the age. That is a rather recent conjecture.

John asks…

How do I convert the current calendar year (2009, 2010, 2011, etc.) to binary and hexadecimal number systems?

How do I convert the current calendar year (2009, 2010, 2011, etc.) to binary and hexadecimal number systems?

AndrewTraub answers:

Divide each number by the base you are converting to. Each remainder is the values in reverse order. If your quotient is non-zero when you obtain your remainder, divide that quotient by the base. Repeat until the quotient is 10.

For example: 2009 = 0x7D9

2009 / 16 = 125 w/ remainder of 9
125 / 16 = 7 w/ remainder of 13 (which is D in hex)
7 / 16 = 0 w/ remainder of 7

Reversing it gives you 0x7D9
